James Stein

James Stein

Dr. Stein has been at UT since 2019 and is the interpersonal communication curriculum director. He has served as chair of the department, taught a dozen courses offered at UT, and has served on committees ranging from workload to GE, and IRB. Dr. Stein’s teaching specialty and program of research are both in interpersonal (specifically, relational) communication and he boasts near 20 peer-reviewed publications. Dr. Stein studies the dyad-network accommodation process (a term he coined in 2022) and teaches a variety of interpersonal and non-interpersonal courses. He also has a history of mentoring undergraduate research, assisting student body presidents and valedictorians alike in their speeches/debates, and working with UT’s Institute of Politics to facilitated difficult political discussions in organized, cidil dialogues.
