Dr. Shariq Sherwani is an Assistant Professor of Health Communication in the Department of Communication. He earned his PHD and MA from Ohio University; MBA and MACPR from The Ohio State University; and, MS from Aligarh Muslim University. He is the present Chair of the Institutional Review Board and the former Faculty Chair of the Policy Steering Committee. He teaches courses in Health Communication, Patient and Provider Relations, Community Health Communication, Organizational Communication, Ethics in Communication, Senior Seminar (Capstone), and Internship. His research focuses on the stressors, quality of life, psychosocial outcomes, and communication uncertainty that caregivers experience when caring for a loved one with end stage renal disease and/or dementia. Dr. Sherwani has worked as a leading scientist at Harvard University, University of Cincinnati, and The Ohio State University. He engages in interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary teaching pedagogies, collaborative research avenues, and community engagement especially in computer-mediated communication, corporate social responsibility (grant-funded), project management, sustainability (biopesticides and herbicides; scientific communication), social advocacy, public health advocacy, and patient and caregiver advocacy (grant-funded). His research has been published in reputable peer-reviewed journals and books and he has also appeared on podcasts. Dr. Sherwani is a Board Member, Community Educator, and Public Policy Advocate for the Alzheimer’s Association, Utah Chapter. Dr. Sherwani holds a Blue Belt in Taekwondo and enjoys jazz, poetry, baseball, tennis, pickleball (2023 Utah Tech Pickle Ball Doubles Champion; Fun category), wiffle ball (2025 Utah Tech Wiffle Ball Champion), and softball (2025 Utah Tech Softball Champion).
